The SyncPlaces plug-in is still prominently featured on Wikipedia's Comparison of browser synchronizers at press time. I've sent a second email with the URL of this blog post. I still tried to contact him and asked for an interview but he has not come back to me so far. "I will not be answering any further emails on this matter, I suggest that you direct any questions to Mozilla themselves and ask them why they were happier for me to leave than to use a little common sense." There are a few discussions on the Mozillazine forums but nothing enlightening so far.Īndy's personal homepage, family homepage and the TotalValidator product he and his wife offer are all still online, he just pulled all his popular Firefox add-ons. I was unable to find any details what caused this rant and the serious decision to remove his excellent add-ons from the Internet. My decision was taken after a series of problems the last one being the final straw." Surprising given that these are the main USP of Firefox, and developers are providing their time and efforts for free. Apparently add-on developers are second-class citizens to them whatever they may say. Apparently spending 1000's of hours promoting their products and providing my extensions to the general public to fill the gaps in their product, and repair bookmarks destroyed by Firefox Sync, counts for little and does not deserve any flexibility or support from them. Unfortunately I do not have the time or the motivation to continue to support these in light of the close-minded, short-sighted and increasingly inflexible organisation that Mozilla has become. If you are here looking for any of my extensions (SyncPlaces, SortPlaces, CheckPlaces or SearchPlaces) then I'm sad to inform you that these are no longer available. " So long Mozilla and thanks for all the fish As I knew the author, Andy Halford, has a homepage I surfed there and found. Downloading the default add-ons for Firefox came to a stall as I could not find SyncPlaces, which I've been using for a few years to synchronize my bookmarks between the systems I use. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -pĥ.A few days ago I was re-installing a laptop of mine. Right-click, choose Properties and make the target look like this: Give it a sensible name, say, FF Profile Managerģ. Create a copy of your FF icon in the Start MenuĢ.

Right-click on your new FF icon and choose Run Sandboxed, in a sandbox of your choice (I have one that I use only for LastPass and nothing else)įor those who don't know how to easily create/delete FF profiles:ġ. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p -no-remote LastPassĭepending on what you named your new profile.Ĥ. For convenience, create a new copy of your FF icon on the Start Menu, rename it as you please, and make the Target in the Properties look something like this:

Install the LastPass add-on only in your new profileģ. Create a new profile* from the stock FF running "naked" on WindowsĢ. That way I can run the LastPass add-on on a completely clean, stock FF in Sandboxie.ġ. So I like to have the "naked" installation of FF free of any add-ons, and only install them in Sandboxie.

And god alone knows what issues other add-ons may have. Why to do this in the first place? LastPass guards sensitive stuff. Same behavior with the Firefox and Windows. It will download fine, but the actual installation will hangĥ.a. Go to Add-ons, search for lastpass, start the installationĥ. Open FF in the Default sandbox, Drop Rights box un-checkedĤ. Firefox itself is installed directly in "naked" Windows, NOT in a sandboxģ.

Firefox 45.9esr on Windows 7 Pro (don't have access to 10 atm)Ģ. Also tested with SRWare Iron, worked fine there.ġ.
I tried a few other random add-ons and those worked fine.

Actually, previously working installation of the LastPass plugin stopped working after upgrade to SBXIE 5.18 and re-installation failed too.
